Reviews:

Textura: "The core of A.M. Architect's inviting sound—laid-back, hip-hop-inflected beats paired with Fender Rhodes melodies, acoustic and electric guitar shadings, and an occasional sample—speaks volumes about its appeal. Though it may be a side project for Diego Chavez (aka Aether216) and Daniel Stanush (aka Magic Note, lead guitarist for the Panic Division), there's nothing half-assed about the dozen fresh cuts that compose The Road to the Sun. Think fifty-two minutes of warm, organic tunes succulently supplemented with pedal steel, cello, field samples, synthesizers, electric piano, and drums and you're in the right ballpark. That there's no “deep meaning” to be gleaned from the set isn't a weakness either, as A.M. Architect's lustrous set-pieces are appealing enough on their own terms to render the point moot. Check out “Albatross,” which breezily glides through a sunlit zone of stutter-funk melodies before slowing to a hazy close. Add a soul-jazz feel and sprinkle a dash of post-rock into the mix and you're all set for dreamy fare such as “Next of Kin” and “Road to the Sun Part I.” When softly cooing female vocals ride a rhythmic wave in the track's second part, you might find yourself reminded of the enticing vocal cuts Scott Herren occasionally works into his Prefuse 73 full-lengths—not bad company for A.M. Architect to keep. And you'll have a tough time in this year or any year finding an instrumental hip-hop track more ravishing than “Upon,” as strong an argument for The Road to the Sun as could possibly be made. Each track bleeds almost immediately into the next, making the album feel like a strong club set where, egged on by an appreciative crowd, Chavez and Stanush can't wait to dig into the next song the moment the previous one's done. Don't be surprised if, listening to it, you don't feel the same."

Scissorkick: "The beats here possess more of an edge, ocassionally touching on some propulsive BPMs. The melodic sensibility on their debut LP “The Road to the Sun” is one of it’s biggest assets."

Analog Giant: "The duo specializes in glitched-out beats and unintelligible samples, creating something both ambient and that spans genres. The dabble in hip-hop mixes in some jazz and ambiance."

rcrdlbl: "The duo drizzle ambient, fuzzed out beats over ethereal guitar builds - creating calming, lush ambient affect."

xlr8r: Next of Kin (Ernest Gonzales remix) - This Ernest Gonzales remix of their track “Next of Kin” blends ambient outdoor sounds with the din of distant conversation, giving the impression of a garden party interrupted by a complex instrumental of buzzy bottom synths, light interwoven electric guitar, and sped-up bongo and electronic hand claps.

Not too shabby Mr. Bernal
Wonderful news this week for Diego Bernal. First off, URB Magazine caught wind of the album. Check it out straight from URB:

"Dilla, Madlib, Dre, Alchemist, etc., all the greats of late...what is one thing they all have in common? None of them are wearing a sombrero. If they did? You'd get Diego Bernal, the new crime fighter from Texas. That's right, he is an attorney for a national civil rights organization. But what does he do in his spare time? Well that is easy. Just listen to his newest release, For Corners.

For Corners is a beat album for the people, by the people...or person. Diego has soaked up quite a bit of hip-hop culture throughout his life and travels, as well as latin music, jazz, funk, R and B, and many other things that shine through his music. And Diego is humble enough to pay his respects. The very first track is titled "Diego's Donut (R.I.P. J Dilla)." Although it does not hold a flame to the recently legendary beat master, because face it, who can hold a flame to Jay Dee?, it still announces great effort into not only the work Diego puts into his music and who he in inspired by, but also what Diego gets out of his music. "Armor Ali'd Out" and "Dusty Sanchez" show Diego's range and his Latin influence, while many other tracks do the same...gathering amazing breaks to create melodies and beats that are relatively unheard but still sound familiar to the hip-hop regime.

Diego has done what most beat producers long to do; he has taken part of his culture, and other cultures for that matter, and let them burst out in his music. His merge of hip-hop and Latin roots is specifically impressive, and done seamlessly. For Corners is what beats are all about, and Diego has mastered his craft. "

On top of that we came across "Ballface", an experimental multimedia piece that uses one of Diego's tracks as the soundtrack.
